(Grand Blanc Township, MI) – Exactly what prompted 40-year-old Thomas Sanford of Burton to open fire on people at a Grand Blanc Township church Sunday morning remains under investigation. Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Reyne says the FBI is involved in the investigation.
Sanford was killed by a Grand Blanc Township police officer and a Michigan Department of Natural Resources officer after he crashed his vehicle into the church and got out shooting with an assault rifle before setting the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on fire.
Joel Feick is a member of the Grand Blanc Township board of trustees:
Police found three improvised explosive devices in Sanford’s vehicle and the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad and SWAT teams searched his home. Governor Gretchen Whitmer says “violence anywhere, especially in a place of worship, is unacceptable.”
