Drought To Blame For Stunted Pumpkins

By Mary Ellen Murphy Sep 23, 2025 | 6:07 AM

(Grand Rapids, MI) – As Monday was the first official astronomical day of fall, drought conditions across West Michigan will leave some disappointed in the size of pumpkins. The latest data released late last week shows every county in the area under some level of drought. With that said, farmers in the area say they are struggling to produce large pumpkins, which are made up of more than 90-percent water.

Drought conditions are also expected to lead to a higher cost of vegetables in the region.
