PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 23-year-old man from Holland suffered a head injury after his boat crashed onto the South Pier near Holland State Park Friday evening around 9:55 p.m. according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say they were alerted to the crash by Michigan DNR staff stationed at the park. When they arrived on scene, they found a 17-foot boat had collided with the top of the South Pier. The 23-year-old operator was thrown from the vessel during the crash and sustained a head injury. He was airlifted to Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital via Aeromed.
A 22-year-old woman who was also on board suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
