(Mason, MI) – Ingham County Judge Kristen Simmons has dismissed charges against 15 Republicans accused by the Michigan Attorney General’s Office of being fake electors in the 2020 presidential election. The group met in December 2020 to sign a document saying they were the state’s electors and directed Michigan’s electoral votes to go to former President Donald Trump, who lost the state to President Joe Biden that year.
The Attorney General’s Office said it was an effort to unlawfully send the electoral votes to the candidate who lost the state. Simmons said in her ruling the defendants had genuine concerns about the election’s validity and did not intend to commit fraud.
