WASHINGTON, DC – Two of U.S. Congresswoman Hillary Scholten’s (MI-03) bipartisan bills passed out of the U.S. House of Representatives to bolster transportation supply chains and support airport operations. The Congresswoman, a Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, co-led the Transitioning Retiring and New Service Members to Port Ocean Rail and Truck Jobs Act (TRANSPORT JOBS Act), as well as the Facility for Runway Operations and Safe Transportation Act (FROST Act) — both of which passed the House floor with bipartisan support.
“Michigan put the world on wheels, and I am ready to work across the aisle to ensure that West Michigan’s transportation sector continues to thrive,” said Congresswoman Scholten. “I am grateful for my colleagues, Congressmen Tom Barrett and Tony Weid, for their leadership on the TRANSPORT JOBS Act and the FROST Act. Whether it is connecting veterans to critical transportation jobs or ensuring airports are fully equipped to manage cold weather, I will continue to put divisive Washington politics aside and deliver real results that ensure all Americans can access their jobs, schools, and places of worship safely.”
The TRANSPORT JOBS Act — introduced by Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) — will play a key role in connecting veterans to critical supply chain jobs. At a time when the transportation sector is already facing a workforce shortage, this bill will remove barriers for our brave veterans pursuing career opportunities post-service, while also filling high-demand transportation jobs.
The FROST Act — introduced by Congressman Tony Wied (WI-08) — will enable airports, like the Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR) and the Muskegon County Airport (MKG), to use Airport Improvement Program dollars to store de-icing fluids and equipment. As we look ahead to the West Michigan winter, our airports must keep flights moving while ensuring passenger safety.
On June 11, 2025, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee greenlit both bills with bipartisan support. Congresswoman Scholten spoke in support of both measures before the Committee.
