(Lansing, MI) – The state House has passed two bills that would expand Amber Alerts in Michigan. Named The Rowan Act, the bills both passed by a 104-to-1 vote and will allow Michigan State Police to used different protocol in issuing an Amber Alert when a child with special needs is missing, or MSP believes the child is in danger after they investigate. Six-year-old Rowan Morey was killed last year by his father in a murder-suicide.
His mother, Brandi Pohl, contacted police after the custody exchange was missed, but an Amber Alert was not issued due to the narrow criteria.
