Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – Grand Haven City Council will meet Monday evening at City Hall, located at 519 Washington Avenue, for a special work session followed by its regular meeting. The agenda includes two public hearings and several important discussion items.
The work session will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will include a presentation from the Sustainability and Energy Commission. Nik Kalejs, a wildlife biologist with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, will also provide an update on forest management.
The regular meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. Two public hearings are scheduled, both relating to the vacant property at 224 Washington Avenue, which has remained unused since Grand Haven Jewelry closed in 2017. The first hearing concerns a proposed 20-year Brownfield Plan for the property. The second involves a resolution to establish an Obsolete Property Rehabilitation District at the site.
Council is also expected to revisit a preliminary zoning ordinance that was passed at the previous meeting. The ordinance would allow short-term rentals by special land use within the Centertown Overlay of the Neighborhood Mixed-Use district. A final decision on the ordinance could be made Monday night.
In other business, the council will consider an amendment to the Board of Light and Power’s purchasing policy and review a bid proposal to replace three variable frequency units at the Northwest Ottawa Water System’s Lake Michigan Pump Station. Meetings are always streamed on the City of Grand Haven’s Facebook page.
