(Detroit, MI) — Schools throughout metro Detroit and all across Michigan remain in limbo without a state budget being approved. Classes are starting very soon and the districts were required to have their budgets finalized by July 1.
That was House Speaker Matt Hall of Richland and Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks of Grand Rapids, speaking earlier this summer. State lawmakers missed that deadline and both parties blame each other with Republicans controlling the state House and Democrats having the majority in the Senate. Several school districts in the Detroit area have taken a conservative approach to starting the school year as they are also facing possible federal spending cuts.
