(Atlanta, GA) – This is National Immunization Awareness Month and the time when kids get ready to head back to school. The CDC says recommended vaccines for children have been around for years and have proven to be safe and effective with mild side effects and rare complications. Dr. Kimberley Giuliano, a pediatrician at the Cleveland Clinic, notes that they help protect against diseases that can cause serious illness, hospitalization, long-term disabilities and even death. She says that while a growing number of parents remain hesitant to get their children vaccinated, skipping shots not only puts their kids at risk but endangers other children around them.
