Speaker Hall Says Cellphone Ban Bill Dead For 2025

By Mary Ellen Murphy Aug 11, 2025 | 5:53 AM

(Lansing, MI) – Michigan House Speaker Matt Hall says the bill to ban cellphones in schools will not be up for another vote this year. He says Democrats in the House put politics ahead of kids in their no votes on July 24th. Hall says kids aren’t learning when they have their phones in the classroom and their test scores will continue to suffer as a result.

Democrats voted no because they say the bill from Representative Mark Tisdel didn’t resemble the deal reached involving the governor’s office and Senate Education Committee chairwoman Dayna Polehanki.
