(Grand Rapids, MI)  –  Steelcase headquarters will remain in Grand Rapids along with its production facilities after they announced yesterday they are being bought by Iowa-based HNI Incorporated for two-point-two-billion-dollars.  HNI has not indicated if any jobs will be cut in west Michigan as part of the deal.
The Right Place Incorporated president and CEO Randy Thelen.
Steelcase was founded in 1912 by Peter Wege and focused on steel office furniture when the city was known for wooden furniture, and has around 11-thousand-300 employees and 800 dealers.
Office Insight magazine editor Rob Kirkbride says the sale of Steelcase to HNI was driven by the changes in the workplace.
