Study: Sporting Dogs Most Likely To Beg For Food

By Mary Ellen Murphy Jul 29, 2025 | 6:52 AM

(Undated) – Some dog breeds seem to be more likely than others to beg for and steal food. A new study in the American Journal of Veterinary Research found sporting dogs like Labradors and Golden Retrievers are more likely to try and scam some extra food. Hound dogs were next on the list. Other non-sporting breeds, like bulldogs and poodles, were actually less likely than the average dog when it came to begging for scraps.

Dogs who live in homes with other dogs were also more likely to try and get extra food.
