The $3 million project, which includes water main and sewer line replacements, and new road and sidewalk construction, will be administratively managed by the Michigan Department of Transportation. The city’s engineer will be the onsite manager overseeing the project.

Upcoming:

Access to Properties: Access to properties will stay open unless there is active construction happening in front of your driveway. If you have questions or concerns about parking, please look for the on-site inspector (Mark Anthony with Abonmarche Engineering) or talk to one of the contractors for help. Feel free to reach me at 616-847-4888 as well.
· Please Note: if you have been parking in the lots across from the Coast Guard office on 2nd Street, you will be unable to do so during Coast Guard Festival.
Reminder: As crews progress along Fulton, I want to send a friendly reminder about underground sprinkling in the City’s right-of-way. If you have underground sprinkling in the parkway (the area between the sidewalk and the street), we recommend salvaging the sprinkler heads and severing the line(s) that run beneath the sidewalk to the parkway. Neither the city nor the contractor is responsible for restoring the irrigation installed in the parkway.
Construction schedules can often change, but we will do our best to provide up-to-date information in each update or let you know if there are time-sensitive updates.
Traffic Control
Fulton Avenue from 1st through the 3rd Street intersection remains closed to through traffic. Please be sure to stay alert and watch for detour routes. Exercise caution and be observant when driving or walking through the construction zone. Follow sidewalk detours and do not enter the active construction site. If you encounter any issues with detours, please report them so our team can review and address them if needed.
Site Safety
No accidents have been reported this week. It is a busy and active construction site with materials being moved between blocks. Thank you to all the residents for their attention to safety as you drive to and from your homes and navigate around the construction site.
Services to Properties
Trash—Your trash service will continue as usual moving forward. If construction is happening in your block, please place your containers on the nearest side street, and Republic will pick them up there. If you need help identifying where to place your container or have issues moving your trash, please let me know so we can facilitate a solution.
Mail – Your USPS mail service will not be interrupted, so there is no need to worry about not receiving any mailings.
Delivery Services—During the project, you will always be able to receive deliveries or packages at your property. If there are extenuating circumstances surrounding a delivery, please contact me, and we will help facilitate those needs.
Emergency Services – The contractor will maintain emergency access to your property at all times. This is not only for your health and safety but also for fire responses.
We continue to be thankful to our residents, property owners, and visitors within the impacted project area. Living near a construction site can often be messy, noisy, and frustrating, so we appreciate your patience, understanding, and communication throughout the project! Working together will help the project run much more smoothly.
