(Lansing, MI) – Former Michigan House Speaker Tom Leonard is running for the Republican nomination for governor in 2026. Leonard joins Congressman John James, state Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt, and former Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox on the Republican primary ticket. He served in the state House from 2013 to 2018 and lost the race for Attorney General in 2018 to Democrat Dana Nessel.

Trump previously referred to Leonard as an embarrassment to the GOP back in 2022 when he lost the Republican nomination for Attorney General to Matt DePerno, who then lost to Nessel.
