Breweries Say Aluminum Tariffs Could Be A Problem

(Grand Rapids, MI) – Breweries in west Michigan say 25-percent tariffs that are scheduled to go into effect next week on aluminum are concerning. President Trump says the tariff is meant to boost domestic production of aluminum and “end foreign dumping,” but Bier Distillery and Brewery owner Joel Bierling says a quarter of their costs is packaging. He says they’re “not raking in the dough and so we don’t have any ability to absorb increased costs of our goods” and says customers will pay more.

New Holland Brewery spokesman Brian Filter says they will have to get innovative to keep their prices from needing to rise.
