(Lansing, MI) – The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says it is believed avian influenza is the cause of over 300 bird deaths so far this year in the state. Allegan County had 77 Canada geese and one mallard duck that were found dead at the Fennville Farm Unit of the Allegan State Game Area. Other bird deaths were investigated in Eaton, Ingham, Shiawassee, and Washtenaw counties.

Samples from Allegan, Ingham, Shiawassee, and Washtenaw counties were tested by a Michigan State University laboratory and the DNR says the preliminary results indicate avian influenza.
