(Saint-Denis, France) – Alena Olsen from Caledonia, Michigan, has secured a bronze medal in the Women’s Olympic Rugby Sevens, marking West Michigan’s first medal of the Paris Summer Games. The 28-year-old Olsen played as a scrumhalf and helped Team USA achieve a historic 14-12 victory over Australia. This is the first Olympic medal for Team USA Rugby Sevens. The American women reached the semifinals but lost to New Zealand, which won gold, while Canada took silver.
Olsen, a former University of Michigan student, has been a key player in rugby since her college years, earning numerous accolades and competing in international tournaments.
