(Saugatuck, MI) – Short-term rentals in Saugatuck are being capped. The city council voted 4-to-2 last night to put a 20-percent cap on STR licenses in the R1 residential districts, which is by the water and on the hill in the city. There are 278 short-term rentals in Saugatuck, up from 104 in 2017 and city council member Holly Anderson says they have overpopulated the city and are impacting the character and quality of neighborhoods.
Current short-term rental licenses will be grandfathered in until the property changes ownership and when licenses come available, they will be awarded through a lottery system.
