Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – The Michigan BeachGuard System is a public resource that provides information for Michigan beaches including water quality sampling results and beach advisories and closures. It’s part of the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy. Several West MI Beaches currently reporting e coli contamination.
Tuesday’s storms did not only knock out power, but is also being blamed for high E. coli levels at Muskegon County beaches and parks. A contamination advisory was issued for several beaches and parks on Wednesday. The advisory includes P.J. Hoffmaster State Park, Pere Marquette Beach, Mona Lake Beach and more. It is believed that storm runoff has brought the bacteria into the waters. The public is strongly urged to not swim in the water right now, but if you do, keep pets off the beach, do not swallow lake water, shower as soon as possible after swimming, and no not feed wildlife in the area.
