NWS Confirms Fourth Tornado In Southwest Michigan

(Portage, MI) – The National Weather Service has now confirmed a fourth tornado on Tuesday in southwest Michigan. It was an EF-2 tornado that started in Centreville in St. Joseph County and

Portage Public Schools will remain closed today as the area cleans up from tornado damage this week. Superintendent Mark Bielang says they hope to open back up as soon as possible and is hoping the school year does not have to be extended. Some roads remain closed in Portage as cleanup continues from the EF-2 tornado.

Over 100 families in Portage have been forced to leave their homes due to damage caused by Tuesday night’s EF-2 tornado. At least a dozen homes were leveled. Jeremy Clark and Kaitlyn Shafer had lived in the Timbercreek Court neighborhood for the past three years in a townhome, but are leaving that and starting over after the tornado damaged nearly everything they own.

The couple and their two-and-a-half-year-old son are staying with her parents temporarily.
