Ottawa County, MI (WGHN) – The US Census Bureau has released the 2023 county population estimates. With a population of 303,372, Ottawa County saw an increase of 2,454 people from 2022. The gain results from an estimated natural increase of 840 people and a positive net migration of 1,616 people. Since 2020, Ottawa County has seen a total increase of 6,456 people, remaining the 7th largest county in Michigan.

Among the ten largest counties in the state, Ottawa County experienced the most growth, with an increase of 2.18% since 2020. Livingston, Kent, and Kalamazoo Counties also saw their populations increase, with rates of 1.44%, 0.43%, and 0.16% respectively. The six remaining counties in the top ten saw their populations decrease from 2020 to 2023. Across all Michigan counties, Ottawa County was the 14th fastest-growing county.

“Ottawa County’s population growth points directly to the quality of life we enjoy here. Our spectacular parks, economic opportunities, bountiful agriculture, excellent schools, safe neighborhoods, and low property taxes all make Ottawa an attractive place to live,” said Shannon Felgner, Communications Director.

Additional information on Ottawa County’s population is available from the Department of Strategic Impact at miOttawa.org, including additional tables and graphs. The 2023 population estimates for local townships, villages, and cities will be available from the Census Bureau later this year.
