Rep. Scholten Secures $11.5M for Community Projects Across West Michigan

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Hillary Scholten (MI-03) announced that she secured more than $11.5M for community projects across West Michigan through the Fiscal Year 2024 appropriations process.

The projects will address various issues across West Michigan– including access to child care, affordable housing, infrastructure, tackling the youth mental health crisis by making youth sports more accessible and so much more. Scholten chose 15 projects from submissions across MI-03 based on community support and pressing local needs. In an incredible feat for a Member of Congress in an especially polarized Congress, Scholten received at least partial funding for ALL of the projects she selected, with many projects being fully funded.

The legislation that allocates these funds passed the House of Representatives this afternoon and now heads to the Senate for passage.

“I came to Congress to provide responsive and results-driven representation on behalf of West Michigan and to make sure every community across our district has a voice. That’s why I’m so excited to have secured more than $11.5 million for a diverse set of projects here in the Third District,” said Rep. Scholten. “One of the most important things we do in Congress is decide how to spend our taxpayers’ dollars. As families across West Michigan continue to struggle, I make very certain that those dollars are being used and invested as frugally and wisely as possible, and that means advocating for them to come right back home here to West Michigan. This funding will tackle the issues that people and families face every single day, and will truly change lives here in West Michigan. It’s an honor to represent this community and I will continue fighting as hard as I can to secure the investments that West Michigan deserves.”
