Derek Dalman Announces Candidacy for Ottawa County Probate Judge

(Holland, MI)  WGHN  – Derek Dalman has announced his candidacy for election to the Ottawa County Probate Court for the upcoming 2024 elections as Judge Feyen is retiring from the bench.

Currently a private practitioner at Cunningham Dalman, P.C. and Deputy City Attorney for the City of Holland, Mr. Dalman is a lifelong resident of West Michigan, having grown up in the rural community of Vicksburg.

He and his family came to Ottawa County in 2016 after he was hired as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney under Ronald J. Frantz, handling felony, misdemeanor and juvenile delinquency matters.
The Dalman family has since established deep roots within the community that they are proud to call home .Mr. Dalman’s legal career which began as a Law Clerk for the Michigan Department
of Attorney General while in the process of obtaining his Juris Doctor, cum laude from the Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School, has been a constant pursuit of justice.

As a former Assistant Prosecutor and current Holland City prosecutor, Mr. Dalman has never stopped fighting for the rights of victims. As a criminal defense attorney, Mr. Dalman has zealously advocated on behalf of the accused, both juvenile and adult, to ensure that their rights and liberties are protected. Having spent most of his career as both a prosecutor and defense attorney, Mr. Dalman understands in a way few others can that justice truly is blind.

In addition to Mr. Dalman’s vast and balanced criminal law experience, a large portion of his private practice focuses on probate and real estate litigation. Mr. Dalman is well-versed in the complexities of these areas of law and is uniquely equipped with the disposition and compassion necessary to navigate the sensitive nature and emotion that naturally follow the litigants’ loss of a loved one. Mr. Dalman
also serves as a court-appointed attorney representing individuals subject to involuntary treatment orders and mental commitment proceedings, ensuring that their rights are protected and that they receive the appropriate care.

Practicing in these areas of law has allowed Mr. Dalman to pursue his passion for helping the most vulnerable members of society and providing a voice for those in need.
Outside of the courtroom Mr. Dalman is dedicated to serving the community through his role as a youth sports coach, a member of multiple boards, and as a volunteer for a non-profit organization created to empower young adults living with disability and illness.
