Man Dead after holding Allendale Mother Hostage

Allendale Charter Township, MI. (WGHN)  — A man whose name has not been released is dead after barricading himself in a home in Allendale Township.  The man held his 56-year-old mother hostage according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. She was released safely.

Around 8:40 p.m. Friday, deputies with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the area of Vail Avenue near Boyne Boulevard after receiving reports that a 37-year-old armed man was making homicidal comments.

Responding deputies reported that a 37-year-old man was inside the home and was believed to be armed and that he mother was being held against her will. Neighbors in the immediate area were evacuated and a perimeter was set up.

Around 8:30 a.m., the man exited the house with the hostage and exchanged gunfire with the tactical units on scene, the sheriff’s office said. He then went back inside and the woman was removed from the scene. She was reunited with her family.

When deputies went inside the home, the man was found dead. The investigation into the shooting and cause of death is being handled by the Michigan State Police.
