Holland, MI (WGHN) – The body of a man has been recovered from Lake Macatawa in Holland. The victim in this incident is identified at 63 year old Brian Deputy of Holland.
The U.S. Coast Guard says they were involved in a rescue effort near Kollen Park, and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says it changed to a recovery effort just before 5:30 last night. The 63-year-old man had jumped into the water with a woman to get two kids back on a pontoon boat after they fell off an inner tube in the water, and he did not resurface while she made it back to the boat. People on jet skis were able to rescue the children.
The woman and children got out of the water safely, though Captain Douglas said the woman also said she was struggling because of the water conditions.
Ottawa County Sheriffs Office Marine Patrol was assisted by The Holland Department of Public Safety Fire and Police services, the Michigan DNR, and United States Coast Guard Station Grand Haven. The U.S. Coast Guard also sent a helicopter to assist from Air Station Detroit, and Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan provided search and rescue coordination. Additional resources were also provided by Holland Township and Park Township Fire Departments.
