(FRUITPORT, MI)-One of the finest individuals ever working for Fruitport Community Schools has passed away.

Ken Erny who fought ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) for three years, died on Sunday.

He had a long and storied career in Fruitport education and athletics.

From the late ’70s until 2020, Ken served both Fruitport Faith Christian & Fruitport High School as a teacher, soccer coach, athletic director, and assistant principal.

He was also a member of Michigan’s High School Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame and Muskegon Area Sports Hall Of Fame.

The soccer field at Fruitport High School is named after him.

WGHN had worked with Ken on numerous occasions throughout the years, for interviews or just assisting our broadcast crews on game night.

He was always classy to us.

A helpful and genuinely good man who cared about the students and athletes of Fruitport.
