Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – The City of Grand Haven has canceled a contract with a fireworks company who handles the 4th of July fireworks. The previous company had pulled out a a very late date leaving the city in a predicament as far as finding an alternative company.
City Manager Ashley Lastch says although the city likes to keep the fireworks on the 4th, this year it is not possible. Musical Fountain engineer and volunteer Brad Boyink said the current company the city had hired was only a year old and that Grand Haven is a very difficult launch location.
“There’s so many things we have to take into consideration. A typical from Wolverine who did them before or Pyrotechnico is ten people minimum. This crew on the company we have now is two people. That leaves a lot of room for potential problems. One of my biggest concerns is they don’t have any stock. They have to go out to market right now and find the fireworks to do our show. If you’re looking right now for fireworks, you’re not going to get anything spectacular.”
The City has decided to go with Pyrotechnico which has also guaranteed pricing for the next three years. They will discuss further at Monday’s council meeting.
