(Detroit, MI)-The second biggest show of the year for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is coming to Ford Field this August.
SummerSlam, which traditionally only trails Wrestlemania in event revenue for the WWE, will stage at the Detroit Lions home on Saturday, August 5th.
The Stamford, Connecticut-based sports entertainment league revealed the logo for SummerSlam this week.
The graphic pays tribute to the Motor City by incorporating Lions’ colors, a chrome-style font, and exhaust flames.
Pro wrestling has a long history with Detroit, going back to the days of The Sheik’s Big Time Wrestling promotion in the ’60s, 1987’s Wrestlemania III at The Pontiac Silverdome, and Wrestlemania 23 at Ford Field in 2007.
Ironically, SummerSlam will have a tough fight for the entertainment dollar that summer Saturday evening in Detroit.
Bay City’s Madonna will perform at nearby Little Caesar’s Arena on her “Four Decades, The Celebration Tour” the same night.
