Four Spring Lake High School students have qualified to participate in a regatta in New Orleans this weekend. According to mlive.com, Frank Reeg, Caleb Boone, Rachael Rantenen and Tommy Clover, members of the Spring Lake Sailing will be competing against the nations best at the Greak Oak Invitational, this Saturday and Sunday.
The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety has begun it's “American Legion Goodfellows/Firefighters Crusade for Toys” campaign. Members of the Department will be ringing bells and taking donations the day after Thanksgiving. Toys will be distributed following the Jingle Bell Parade. The program has been in effect for 60 years, mlive.com is reporting.
Grand Rapids has now had the snowiest November in it's history. The 119 year old record has stood at 28.2 inches of snow. Last night, at midnight, the area recorded 29 inches. With a few more days left in the month, the record is expected to climb higher.
A Flint area woman is under arrest, after participating in a protest in front of the White House, while in posession of an unregistered firearm. 23 year old April Lenhart of Mount Morris was in Washington to attend a protest. She's being charged with possession of an unregistered firearm, possession of unregistered ammunition and carrying a pistol without a license. She is not cooperating with authorities.

Officials in Lansing have announced that Governor Rick Snyder and Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley will be sworn in for their second terms at noon on New Year's Day on the state Capitol steps. The inauguration planning committee says Snyder will shake hands with Michigan residents in a receiving line starting at 1:30 p.m. and will also attend a celebration that night a few blocks from the Capitol at the Lansing Center.

A Benefit for the Grand Haven Are! Community Foundation's Homeless Prevention Fund

I had the pleasure of attending the six annual "Soup for All" event a benefit for the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation's Homeless Prevention Fund- organized by the Ottawa Area Housing Coalition- and held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.  One of the "Celebrity Servers" was our own News Director Walt Zerlaut was there serving up a hearty chili!  What a truly incredible event.
