Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) -A new refinery problem in the Midwest is fueling concerns about another jump in gas prices, just weeks after a similar issue caused prices to spike nearly 80 cents in a single day.
Patrick De Haan of GasBuddy said multiple refinery outages are already straining the region’s fuel supply, making the market vulnerable to any additional disruptions. De Haan said another refinery issue could quickly drive prices higher because suppliers often must pay steep premiums to secure gasoline during shortages.
An Indiana refinery problem two weeks ago triggered a sharp increase in wholesale fuel prices, with many gas stations rapidly raising prices to keep up with costs. Industry experts warn another major refinery disruption could tighten Midwest fuel supplies even further and lead to another sudden increase at the pump.
