Ottawa County, MI (WGHN) – A 26-year-old man from Traverse City was arrested Saturday after allegedly stealing a pickup truck and leading deputies from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office on a pursuit through Chester Township and Crockery Township, where authorities say he intentionally rammed several vehicles.

Deputies responded around 4 p.m. to the 2300 block of Crockery Shores Road in Chester Township after reports that a man had stolen a 2012 Ford F-250 from a driveway. The truck belonged to a 65-year-old man from Sparta, and investigators said the suspect did not know the victim.

A short time later, deputies located the stolen truck on Exchange Street in Spring Lake Village and attempted a traffic stop. The driver fled, prompting a pursuit that was later terminated for safety reasons.

Authorities said the situation escalated when the suspect allegedly rammed a civilian vehicle at the intersection of North Fruitport Road and East Savidge Street. The vehicle was occupied by a 25-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man from Ann Arbor, along with a 27-year-old man from Spring Lake. An Ottawa County sheriff’s vehicle was also involved in the crash.

Deputies later resumed the pursuit eastbound on Cleveland Street into Crockery Township. Investigators said officers briefly boxed in the suspect near Cleveland Street and M-231, but he allegedly rammed several patrol vehicles and continued driving east.

The chase ended near a closed bridge over Crockery Creek after the suspect struck another vehicle, drove into a private driveway, and crashed into trees, disabling the truck.

The man was taken into custody and lodged in the Ottawa County Jail on multiple charges. Authorities said no injuries were reported, and the investigation remains ongoing with additional charges possible.
