(Grand Haven, MI) – The Ottawa County Department of Public Health is confirming two more cases of measles, bringing the total in the lakeshore county to three. Ottawa County went over three decades without any cases of measles until this year, with the last case confirmed in 1991. The three cases are linked in exposure, and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is listing the county as undergoing a measles outbreak. Health officials in the county, however, say the designation does not mean there is an increased risk or the virus is spreading because all three remained at home when they were contagious.
No public exposure sites have been identified.
