By Mary Ellen Murphy May 1, 2026 | 6:55 AM

(Grand Haven, MI) – Tourism officials in west Michigan are concerned about the impact of high gas prices, as most stations in the area are now selling regular unleaded for five-dollars a gallon. The price jumped Wednesday evening after crude oil prices spiked. Grand Valley State University researcher Brian Long says some people will restrict the amount of driving they do in the summer as a result, but adds the long-term impact remains uncertain.

In Grand Haven, Baymont Inn general manager Eric Scott says they are anticipating people staying closer to home and are hoping more local people stay at the hotel this year.
