(San Diego, CA) – Longtime U.S. Senator Donald Riegle, who served in elected office under seven U.S. Presidents, has died at the age of 88. Riegle was from Flint and his family says he died from cardiac arrest in San Diego, California on Friday with wife Lori Hansen Riegle by his side. He was first elected to the U.S. House at a Republican in 1966, and changed to the Democratic Party in 1973 after he made headlines challenging President Nixon’s Vietnam War policies.
Riegle was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1976 and served 18 years.
