Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – What if grieving your sister meant… fighting a gelatinous cube?
Central Park Players closes its season with She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen, a wildly entertaining comedy full of sword fights, monsters, and just enough emotional damage to keep things interesting. The show runs April 24 and 25, and May 1 and 2 at 7:30 PM, with a matinee on May 3 at 2:30 PM at Central Park Place.
Directed by Dan Castle, She Kills Monsters follows Agnes Evans, a perfectly normal young woman suddenly thrown into the not-so-normal world of her late sister Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons campaign. Armed with little experience and a lot of confusion, Agnes finds herself battling everything from vicious creatures to high school memories she never knew existed.
But beneath the quests, dice rolls, and absurdly epic combat lies a story about grief, identity, and the people we don’t fully understand until it’s too late. As Agnes journeys deeper into the game, she begins to uncover her sister’s hidden life—including her friendships, her strength, and her identity as a young queer woman.
Blending fast-paced comedy with genuine heart, She Kills Monsters celebrates LGBTQ+ stories, found family, and the courage it takes to be unapologetically yourself—even if that self carries a battle axe.
Audiences can expect a high-energy production featuring a mix of new and returning cast members to the Central Park Players stage, bringing this fantasy world to life with theatrical flair, humor, and just the right amount of chaos.
And yes—costumes are encouraged. Central Park Players invites attendees to come dressed as their favorite Dungeons & Dragons characters. Whether you’re a noble hero, chaotic rogue, or someone who just owns a cape, you’ll fit right in.
For decades, Central Park Players has been a staple of the Grand Haven arts community, dedicated to bringing people together through live theatre. This final production of the season proves that sometimes the best way to face reality… is to roll for initiative.
