OTTAWA COUNTY, MI. — Emergency crews responded to a hazardous materials incident in Georgetown Township after a box truck crashed and spilled diesel fuel into a nearby creek.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said a 2008 Freightliner, driven by a 40-year-old Wyoming, Michigan man, was heading west on Bauer Road near 40th Avenue when the driver lost control.

The truck struck a fire hydrant before veering off the road and crashing into a creek along 40th Avenue. The impact caused damage to the vehicle and led to a diesel fuel leak into the water.

No injuries were reported. The Ottawa County Emergency Management Hazmat team and the Water Resources Department were called in to contain and clean up the spill.
