Detroit, MI (WGHN) – Opening Day in Detroit has its own rhythm.
On Friday, April 3, 2026, downtown fills early as fans in navy and orange make their way toward Comerica Park. Cold weather doesn’t change much — this is Michigan, and baseball is back.
92.1 WGHN will carry the game, with pregame coverage at 12:45 p.m. and first pitch at 1:10 p.m.

The Detroit Tigers host the St. Louis Cardinals in their home opener, but the day is about more than the matchup. It’s one of the few times during the year when the entire downtown area moves in sync.
By late morning, bars and restaurants are busy, sidewalks are crowded, and the area around the ballpark is fully active. Fans gather early, and the buildup continues right up to first pitch.
As game time approaches, the crowd shifts inside. The pregame ceremony begins, and attention turns to the field.
When the first pitch is thrown, it marks the start of the season at home — and the return of baseball to the city.
