Ottawa County, MI (WGHN) – Harbor Transit is marking a major milestone with a new look and a major expansion project.
For more than 50 years, Harbor Transit has served the Tri-Cities area, providing reliable transportation to thousands of riders while meeting the everyday mobility needs of the Northwest Ottawa County community.
As the organization breaks ground on a new operations center this March, it is also debuting a refreshed logo and brand.
Harbor Transit’s original logo, created in the early 1980s by Grand Haven designer Ronald Olmsted, was designed to represent the three municipalities it served at the time: Ferrysburg, Grand Haven, and Spring Lake. That logo has remained an important symbol of the agency’s history.
Over the past five decades, Harbor Transit has expanded its service area to include Grand Haven Township and Spring Lake Township. It also now connects with the Muskegon Area Transit System to better link the two regions. Through the Lakeshore Trolley, service extends to Fruitport, creating additional regional access points.
The new logo and branding, designed by Olmsted Signs & Design, reflect Harbor Transit’s continued growth as a regional transportation resource beyond the Tri-Cities.
“The timing of the new logo reveal is intentional,” said Executive Director Scott Borg. “We recently broke ground on Harbor Transit’s new operations center in Grand Haven Township. Harbor Transit is evolving and growing to meet the needs of Northwest Ottawa County, and we’re excited for this next chapter.”
The new operations center is expected to be completed in summer 2027. The 40,000-square-foot facility will include expanded vehicle storage, room for fleet growth, and a waiting and transfer area for passengers connecting to regional services.
“I know I can speak for all of us at Harbor Transit when I say thank you to our community and our riders for your continued loyalty and support,” Borg added. “It’s truly special to be part of a community that values public transportation. The quality of life is higher here because of it.”
Since 1975, Harbor Transit has provided public transportation services across a 55-square-mile service area with a fleet of 28 accessible buses. The system serves Grand Haven, Grand Haven Township, Ferrysburg, Spring Lake, and Spring Lake Township, offering on-demand curb-to-curb service and the Lakeshore Trolley.
