Muskegon, MI (WGHN) – The Actors’ Workshop of West Michigan, in partnership with Muskegon Pride, is presenting the Midwest and Michigan premiere of Play It Straight.
The play centers on an advanced drama teacher whose belief in creative freedom clashes with new school policies—raising questions about ethics, authority, and the challenges faced by students, parents, and educators.
The production features a mix of local theater veterans, MCC students and alumni, and a student from the Poppen Programs at Muskegon High School. It is directed by AWWM founder Adam Bell.
Play It Straight was written by California playwrights Richard Winters, Kerri Yund, and Gary Wright. Winters will be in residence during final rehearsals and opening weekend.
Gabi Tomes who play Hope and playwright Richard Winter stopped into the WGHN studios. Hear the interview below.
Performances will be held at The Stage at the Corner in Muskegon on Friday and Saturday nights, March 20th and 21st, and again March 27th and 28th at 7 p.m.
Tickets are 18 dollars for adults and 10 dollars for students, available online or at the door. Proceeds from opening night will benefit Muskegon Pride.
