Whitmer Sends Letter Asking Congress To Enact Statutory Restraints On Presidential Tariff Power

(Lansing, MI) – Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has sent a letter signed by 18 other governors to Congress to urge they pass statutory constraints on presidential tariff power. The governors say Congress needs to review tariffs after the U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled President Donald Trump’s tariffs were illegal. Whitmer says the impacts of those “ripple through every sector of our economy.”

The Michigan Retailers Association found nearly 75-percent of retail businesses in the state had a negative or strongly negative impact from the tariffs.
