Ottawa County, MI (WGHN) – A stretch of eastbound I-196 in Ottawa County was shut down Tuesday night after strong winds pushed a semi into the ditch. Deputies with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office say the crash happened just west of mile marker 62 around 9:15 p.m. Fire crews from the Hudsonville City Fire Department also responded.
The 57-year-old driver told first responders the powerful wind from the storm caught the empty trailer and forced the truck off the road.
The driver was not injured.
Eastbound I-196 was closed for about two and a half hours while crews worked to remove the truck. The highway reopened just before midnight.
