Caffeine May Lower Risk Of Dementia

By Mary Ellen Murphy Feb 10, 2026 | 7:05 AM

(Boston, MA) – New research suggests daily consumption of caffeinated coffee and tea could lower your dementia risk. A long-term, observational study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found two to three cups of caffeinated coffee or one to two cups of tea was associated with lowering dementia risk, slowing cognitive decline and preserving cognitive function. Researchers also determined that about 300 milligrams of caffeine is the optimal daily amount.

While the study’s authors did say “the results are really reassuring,” they also noted that they are not recommending for people who don’t drink coffee to start drinking it.
