Georgetown Twp., MI (WGHN) –  Deputies are searching for a man accused of breaking into a Georgetown Township apartment early Thursday and assaulting a former partner while armed with a handgun.

The incident was reported about 5:30 a.m. when a child inside the apartment called 911. Deputies responded to the apartment in the 300 block of Baldwin Street and found that a 32-year-old Grand Rapids man had forced his way inside and assaulted a 32-year-old woman who lives there, investigators said. The two previously had a relationship.

Three children — a 7-month-old, a 9-year-old and a 14-year-old — were inside the apartment at the time. The woman suffered minor injuries, and the children were not hurt.

Deputies said the man fled into nearby woods as they arrived. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office deployed its Critical Response Team, drone and K-9 units and crisis negotiators. Michigan State Police and a Holland Police Department K-9 unit also assisted.

The suspect was not located. Deputies said they believe he is no longer in the area and that there is no threat to the public. Tactical units have cleared the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
