Blendon Twp., MI (WGHN) – A 60-year-old Olive Township man is in critical condition following a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in Blendon Township, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say the crash happened around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Tyler Street and 96th Avenue. Investigators say the man was driving westbound on Tyler Street in a silver Honda Accord when he failed to stop at the stop sign at 96th Avenue and collided with a black Ford Escape traveling northbound.

Both vehicles were forced into a ditch on the west side of 96th Avenue. Deputies say the Ford Escape caught fire after the crash.

The four occupants of the Ford — a 39-year-old man, a 41-year-old woman, an 8-year-old girl, and a 6-year-old boy, all from West Olive — were able to escape the vehicle and suffered only minor injuries.

The driver of the Honda was pinned inside his vehicle and had to be extricated by first responders. He was later flown to a Grand Rapids hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
