Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – Grand Haven Public Safety units were dispatched to the 1100 block of Pennoyer for a report of a fully involved garage fire. Upon arrival, crews located a detached garage that was fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters quickly established operations and successfully protected nearby exposures. Damage was contained to the involved structure, with minor damage reported to a neighboring garage.

The detached garage is considered a total loss. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Grand Haven Public Safety was assisted on scene by the Grand Haven Township Fire Department and Trinity Health Grand Haven.

The home sits just west of Ferry Elementary School, which was getting ready to dismiss students for the day when the fire broke out. The Grand Haven Tribune reports that Principal Shelly Hammond said they evacuated the school out of caution, and moved all pick-ups to the east side of the building off Ferry Street.
