(Fruitport Township, MI) — Fruitport Township police say an 11-year-old girl has been found dead and her mother has been arrested. The girl was found unresponsive at a home in Clover Estates Mobile Home Park and was declared dead at the scene. She has been identified as Mailah Leak, who was a student at Shettler Elementary School. Leak died on her birthday.
Authorities and emergency personnel responded to a home in the Clover Estates Mobile Home Park in Fruitport and found the child unresponsive. Emergency crews were not able to revive her.
The woman, identified as Sherry Leak, told 911 dispatchers that there was a physical altercation between herself and her 11-year-old daughter.
Her Mother Sherry Leak has been arrested and is awaiting formal charges.
