(Washington, DC) — The White House says President Trump doesn’t want a group of Democrats to be put to death. This, after Trump posted on social media Thursday that the group should be tried for “seditious behavior, punishable by death.” The President was referring to Democratic lawmakers who put out a video telling members of the armed forces that they had an obligation to resist illegal orders. The group, which included military veterans, didn’t say what orders were illegal but noted soldiers are required to refuse them. Trump went on to repost other posts calling for the Democrats’ executions. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that Trump didn’t actually want the lawmakers executed, but that the video could lead to dangerous insurrection.
In response, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called Trump’s post an outright threat.
