(Lansing, MI) – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and 20 other attorneys general have sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture seeking clarification of who is eligible to receive SNAP benefits. Their letter says the new guidance from the USDA wrongly treats several groups of immigrants as being ineligible for the assistance and contradicts long-standing federal law.
They add the new restrictions could unlawfully block lawful permanent residents who were granted asylum or came to the country as refugees from getting the benefits.
