(Lansing, MI) – Twenty-two Republican lawmakers, led by state Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt, are asking U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to have the U.S. Department of Justice oversee the primary and general elections in Michigan in 2026. The letter cites an “inherent and unavoidable conflict of interest” as Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor. Nesbitt says in the letter that the state has issued driver’s licenses to “illegal immigrants,” Chinese nationals have cast votes in recent elections, and “Jocelyn Benson is the worst Secretary of State in American history and cannot be trusted to manage our elections.”
Secretary of State spokesperson Angela Benander says Michigan’s elections are “among the most transparent, secure, and accessible in the nation.
