Firearm Deer Hunting Season Starts Tomorrow

(Lansing, MI) – Michigan’s annual firearm deer hunting season starts tomorrow. It runs from November 15 through November 30. Hunters last year harvested nearly 180-thousand deer during the two-week season. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is encouraging hunters to report their harvests online through the DNR Hunt Fish app or by going online to Michigan.gov/DNRHarvestReport.

Fewer people are getting deer hunting licenses in Michigan and the Department of Natural Resources says the deer population is growing as a result. From 1995 to 2023, the DNR says the state lost around 200-thousand deer hunters. That is a 30-percent decline.

The DNR did a survey and found factors like an aging population, young people not getting into hunting, and not having access to private land are among the top factors.
